Juicy Tuesday! The Art of Kate MccGwire
A friend of mine refreshed my memory on this woman’s art today – I remember seeing it a year or two ago and just loving it. Kate MccGwire is a contemporary British sculptor. She constructs these immense, otherworldly creations using hundreds of natural feathers, mostly in blue, black, and white. Although I’ve never gotten to see any of her work in person, I imagine the large scale would render a powerful presence. The intermingling of seemingly solid, heavy objects with the delicate nature and detail of the feathers is such a beautiful contrast. Hi all. I hope you're enjoying being part of this year-long journey with me! We are sure to encounter many monsters along the way - including the dreaded creative block or the seemingly impossible project. Confession: I’ve been extremely grumpy the past few days (six new medications can really wig you out!) and nearly every blog post and facebook post I’ve come into contact with has just hit me the wrong way, you know? I’m always like “Art? Art is dumb. I don’t want to see art today.” Or food. Or smiley faces. Or anything. But this post stopped me in my grumpiness tracks. This is BEAUTIFUL. And I am happy to look at it. It’s the first thing I’ve looked at in days that’s made me happy.
Oh my gosh, im so glad :) i know that feeling, even if for different reasons, ive been saying “fuck you” to like every annoying happy thing for the past few weeks. :P im sorry to hear all the mess you’ve been dealing with w the meds. :(
