The Art of Andy Goldsworthy
Hi everyone!
I found another great artist for February’s topic of “Temporary Art” today. Andy Goldsworthy is a land artist who creates some of the most stunning arrangements out of natural objects. The contrast of the raw, random natural world and the design and order that he creates within it just sing to me. While not all of his pieces are as temporary as Jim Denevan’s from my previous post – there is certainly that feeling of fragility. There’s a sense that, as you are looking at these pictures, the works themselves likely no longer even exist – as if you are viewing an extinct species.
While I could not find an official website for Andy’s work, you can view more of his land art in this Ecosalon Article.
That is all for tonight – I hope this leaves you inspired!
Goodnight!

Have you ever seen Andy Goldsworthy’s “Wall”? It’s in upstate New York in an extraordinary outdoor art park (although those words don’t do the place justice)called Storm King. A dry stone wall design (no mortar), it snakes around trees and large rocks, disappears into a lake only to reappear on the other side, climbs steep hills and traverses fields. One of so many unique designs by this gifted visionary. Here’s a website with images of some of his work. http://www.ucblueash.edu/artcomm/web/w2005_2006/maria_Goldsworthy/TEST/index.html
Hi Julie!
Indeed I have heard of Andy Goldsworthy’s work – he was the inspiration for one of my projects last year! His work is SO inspiring! I have never seen the wall – but am now kicking myself for not knowing sooner as I was just in upstate NY visiting my sister last summer! Looks like I need to take another trip up there this year – it sounds amazing! ;)
Thank you for sharing that!
